The first business idea is to sell school supplies and stationary. From my own experiences, I find myself often running out of paper, lead, etc and I have to go to stores outside of school to purchase whatever I need. My friends also experience the same thing, so I think it will be a successful business. We could possibly take orders and deliver items during class time. This is also quite a realistic business idea for a student like me, as I will have a small budget.
Another business idea is I could open a hot dog stand. There are alot of restaurants around the school area that sell popular junk food, but hot dogs are not as common, 7-11 does sell them but at quite expensive prices. They will be the main competition for this venture. We could open the stand during break, lunch, or after school. Making the hot dogs may be a little difficult, or we could buy them. Another problem might be regarding the freshness of the hot dogs, do we want to make them beforehand or make them on the spot? This idea may not be as profitable as there are already alot of options when buying food in the school area, but something new and different from the usual could be attractive to students and staff.
I have the same idea with selling school supplies and stationary near the school. I agree that it's important that it should be near the school. Though getting some of the supplies is going to be a bit difficult to get since it can be pretty expensive.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of selling hot dogs because it's a completely new idea. Making different kinds of hot dog like adding cheese or chili on it will definitely catch a costumer's eye. Though I do agree that it may not be as profitable and the efficiency of producing a hot dog.

The stationary idea is definitely one that you should start! I find myself running out of lead, paper and white-out all the time! The start-up cost won't be too high for a student to handle.
ReplyDeleteThe hot dog idea isn't bad but there are quite a few problems. One would need a teacher to supervise because the hot dogs maybe not be cooked properly. If the hot dogs were not fresh, I would not consider buying them. That is why I think you should make them fresh but the only problem is "when". Perhaps if someone had free block before lunch this would work but if not, I would not suggest skipping class to make hot dogs.
I like the idea of selling school supplies in the school. If I remember, the Trojan Market did that for some point with "Trojan Junior". It would be neat to see how things work out.
ReplyDeleteI see the hot dog stands as being problematic. With the vending machines, the cafeteria and the Trojan Market all trying to gain market share, I think there won't be much to gain unless the prices are extraordinarily cheap.
I like the idea of selling school supplies. It brings the supplies to the students and offers them quick and easy convenience. Also, it is almost like an impulse buy because if a student has a test the next block and needs lead, you are the person they can go to. A definite way of getting your venture out to the school is by word of mouth: telling all your friends and just passing the word along!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the hot dog stand venture would be very successful because there are already competitors around our school (e.g. 7-11). Also, even more, within the school there is already Trojan Market, the cafeteria and vending machines. In my opinion, all of these product sellers already have their loyal customers so it might be hard to bring them to you.
With school supplies, it's a given that there'll be customers that have ran out of paper or other stationary. I hear too many people saying that line and this would give them a good reason to stop asking about it.
ReplyDeleteAs for hot dogs, i don't think it'll be a viable business due to conpetition and due to putting in the effort to actually run this stand as you'd have to cook them and try to sell them as fresh as possible.

I think selling school supplies is a good idea because I always ran out of paper or lead. Sometimes I also forget to bring my pencil case to school so it would be good that there’s a place nearby where I can get pens and pencils. One problem is that the supplies have to be cheap in order to have customer because if it’s expensive, students will rather borrow from others or go superstore and get it themselves.
ReplyDeleteFor the second venture idea, I think it’s a good idea to sell hot dog because students will like to try out new food and hot dog is easy to make. In order to attract students instead of selling just regular hot dogs, you should sell japa dogs.

Good evaluation of the consequences of a hot dog stand. I do have one thing to add and that is just simply selling hot dogs might not be too profitable. Maybe add a little variety on products.
ReplyDeleteSelling school supplies as a venture idea is solid because in a school environment what better way is there to sell what they need the most. Problems arise is prices because if it is too expensive no one will but them.
ReplyDeleteHot dogs are a good idea because it is cheap and a good snack for any break. You can put in new ingredients to attract more consumers but problems arise such as food safety/health.
The stationary service would be hard to start because even students are missing out paper and stationary, they can always lend it from their friends. Therefore i think its hard for you to start.
ReplyDeleteThe hot dogs idea is going to be good in the start, but might not be as good as months elapsed. People are going to get sick of the product and stop buying it. And there is also two competitors which is cafe and trojan market.
The thing about selling stationary is that there are too many reasons for students to not buy them. First of all, students can always borrow from their friends. Second of all, if the products we sell are not original enough, then it will not attract attention; it doesn't give the students an incentive that your store will "be the one." Lastly, it may not be too profitable. The Trojan Junior, our very own school store that sold stationary in the past, was a fail because it didn't profit. It may not work this time again...
ReplyDeleteYour second venture idea, selling hot dogs, would be a twist to the diets of the students in the school. However, add a bit more variety in it, as it may get boring over a short period of time.

ReplyDeleteI believe several years ago our school tried the whole selling stationary items and it didn't really work out well. However i think it is a good idea i don't think it will be very successful.
ReplyDeleteYou're second idea sounds very good and creative. Everyone loves hot dogs! However i agree that the freshness of the hot dogs would be a problem also you would need a food safe certificate. Another problem is what would you do with the hot dogs that weren't able to sell?

I really like your idea of selling stationary at school because people run out of paper, pencils or eraers for various reasons. and they may have a test on that day wihtout necessary supplies.
ReplyDeleteBut i am leaning on the fense of your hotdot selling idea because first of all, yodo you have a hot dog cooker machine? how are you going to keep all the hotdogs warm, d o you have a food safety certificate?

ReplyDeleteI think your initial venture idea is really good. As students, one thing we use the most in the 5hours of school is stationary. Every now and then we run out of paper or lead , highlighters and other school supplies. Your idea will be a solution to our problems. Instead of facing the emarrassment of asking one sheet of paper everytime from the person sitting next to you, students will just run down to where your business is set up and purchase of you! Your venture will be highly successful in terms of profit!
ReplyDeleteYour second idea is quite similar to mine as I'm thinking to sell an indian appetizer for my business. However selling hotdogs will attract competition since 7eleven is just a block up from the school. It's a very appealing idea and has a potential to gain alot of success but you will have to market it in a way that your business can actually gain that success. You should sell hotdogs at a very economical rate and maybe have special dressings or sauses to go on it. Adding a little twist to your hotdogs or something that we call "the X factor" might gain you a high level of popularity with the product and will out do all your competitors resulting in a substantial profit for your business.
You have very good points. You are right, it is very common for students to run out of school supplies and will have to end up turning to friends or even teachers to replace them for something to use throughout the day. There are definitely students who’d like to purchase your products but I was just wondering where you’d stock your supplies, since you’d have sales going on during school hours. I was also wondering who would be delivering school supplies during class, since I’m guessing that you yourself have class to attend and might not want to miss such valuable learning time.
ReplyDeleteSelling hot dogs is a very good idea. It’s a good thing that you’re already aware of how you’re going to sell them though. You’d benefit and profit more if the hot dogs are served warm that’s for sure. Regardless, it’s a good idea though. If you could think about it and work out through any obstacles with this venture, I think you’d really be successful with it because it really is something that’s not very common within the school. You’d be opening a new market for it. Maybe you could bring hot dogs already preheated in a special bag, like what pizza people use to deliver pizza. And then the buns can be brought the way they are bought because the hot, hot dogs will heat the bun anyways. Just a suggestion and something you’d like to consider for the venture.
Overall, I think you have really great ideas Jimmy! Good luck on your venture. :)
Selling school supplies and stationary is a great idea. Though I rarely find myself running out of supplies, I am sure other students from the students do. This idea is very convenient for students. They won’t have to travel all the way to a stationary store; instead they can also purchase cheap supplies at school.
ReplyDeleteHaving a hot dog stand at school is probably a bad idea. But this really depends how the students manage their time in buying all the ingredients and having it ready in between classes. Also, having a teacher there to supervise and making sure the hot dog are cooked. Besides this, I think this idea would attract a lot of students.
The first venture idea of selling stationary items is good but, you're definitely going to have a hard time finding customers. Do not forget about your competitors. The second venture idea which is silling hot dog stands, is an excellent idea and I actually like it. The only store outside of our school that sells hotdogs is 7-11 and their prices are pretty high. So maybe you could set up a hotdog stand at school and sell them quite easily. However, their are some food safety conducts and other regulations but I'm sure hotdogs could pass.
